Japan has developed a series of wasei-eigo, or Japanese pseudo-anglicisms to incorporate the English language into their own. CHENJI-REBA is one such wasei-eigo, and carries weight with my own philosophy of always ensuring the appropriate lever, or gear, is changed, or shifted, to maintain the right amount of momentum during any given period of transition.

When companies evaluate change, it is traditionally in a reactive manner to keep up with our rapidly-evolving geopolitical climate. But why react to maintain the status quo, rather than proactively controlling the entire situation? Choosing the right gear to shift means shouldering a calculated risk to successfully achieve an outcome. A successful digital transformation requires collaborative effort from all parties. I try to make it easier through following a clear, laid-out plan of evaluation to assess the value of modernizing your business. It's a highly iterative process that ensures mutual buy-in to the project.

The most integral component to a successful transformation, the Empathy process encompasses a series of interviews with the cross-functional team to unearth respective challenges, assess the rationale of these challenges, and prioritize the outcomes. This is the opportunity to formulate a strong value hypothesis and seek Executive sponsorship through aligning to the business outcomes. The goal of this piece of the engagement is to uncover the best path towards successful discovery.

Once the initial discovery is complete, it's important to validate the assumptions and ensure there is full alignment with respect to the challenges identified and what is being solved for. Through an iterative fashion, we accept any and every possible idea, rationalizing and prioritizing the best-possible strategy of deployment through live brainstorming coupled with actual prototyping. The end result is a mutually-agreed-upon build which falls back to the discovery findings.

The final meeting is an executive discussion where Empathy and Execution are married. This session validates the recommended prototype and accompanying outcome plan through quantification of the outcomes. Key deliverables include a business case/ROI package.
